Business Community
As a business leader, you can empower Pueblo’s youth and their future goals by supporting our children’s ideas, modeling strong work ethics, and by mentoring youth in your business.
See some ways that business leaders can help promote academic performance and positive youth behavior!
Academic Performance
Businesses can provide many resources for our youth by donating school supplies and technology resources so our children have the best ability to learn and have the tools to be successful. Here are some ways your business can impact our youth.
Help Students Find Their Voice*
Talking with youth and developing an understanding for their lives and what they are passionate about will help local businesses in the community reach out and allow youth to speak their voice and feel heard.
Encourage Students to Tell Their Story to a Wider Audience*
Allowing youth to branch out and tell their stories to different audiences develops of feeling of empowerment and that their voices matter. Some youths have already shared their stories about their disabilities to educate people the same age.
Foster Student Generosity*
When students can share their voice, they open the doors to the heartstrings of the youths around them. When youths have strong voices and can their it with others around them, great things are more than likely to happen. For instance, students have worked together in the past to develop money for a friend who was sick and ended up raising over $5,000. When given the opportunity, youths have a most powerful voice.
Provided After School Care
Many parents work late and can’t pick up their child from school, this is a great opportunity to offer after school care where the local school busses can take them to your site and help them with any school work along with fun activities to keep them busy.
Participate on a Career Day
Talk to the kids about your career and why it is important to do good in school because many of those skills carry over into many careers.
Help Students Find Their Passions*
Entrepreneurs can go into schools and ask students what they are most passionate about, or what they want to change most in the world by creating a heartbreak map. Heartbreak maps involve asking students what upsets them and makes them angry, drawing it, writing it, and speaking it to come to life.
Connect Students to Powerful Role Models for Change*
Connecting students with role models will open doors for guidance on goal setting, persistence, and action to make their dreams happen.
Positive Youth Behavior
Being in a business we want to ensure our youth with better choices throughout life. Whether that is teaching them hard work ethic, communication skills, or learning from setbacks.
Hard Work Ethic
Hard work ethic means staying after for extra help from your instructor or fine-tuning your assignments to reach perfection.
Learning Setbacks
Teaching children about learning from mistakes is an important lesson to learn from. Talk about how to analyze the situation and come up with some ideas to better the outcome so that in the future you have a plan if it does happen again.
Communication Skills
In your personal life, good communication skills can improve your personal relationships by helping you to understand others, and to be understood.
