General Community
Treating others with kindness and respect can make you a hero. Show young people how important it is to work through conflict respectfully.
See some ways that you can help promote academic performance and positive youth behavior!
Academic Performance
Community involvement and engagement shows significant short and long-term benefits for our youth community. Volunteering at schools is a great opportunity when parents can’t be there at their schools.
Below are some examples on how anyone in the community can help encourage youth to succeed academically.
Volunteer at Schools
Contact Pueblo schools to talk about volunteering. Showing youth that our community supports continuous learning will leave a lasting impression on youth.
Support Afterschool Programs
After-school programs are a great way to help youth not only succeed academically but also help with their transition to adulthood. Find out what after-school programs exist and how you can get involved.
Positive Youth Behavior
The community plays an important role in our youth behavior by being good role models, having a positive influence on the youth by your actions will make them want to strive to be the best like you.
Below are some ideas on how anyone in the community can be that positive role model.
Be Well Rounded
Some great role models aren’t always our parents or teachers but the people in our community. Teaching the youth to learn and listen can be important to help them develop:
Problem-solving skills.
How to be creative.
How to be a critical thinker.
Influencers
Ever heard monkey see, monkey do? Well, that is true when kids see something adults are doing without understanding why or concerned about the consequences. Many adults will view their behavior to be harmless but now a child is learning new habits, for example, swearing in public- you might have accidentally slipped up but, now that child learned a new word and may get in trouble in the future. Make sure your influence is worth passing on (leave a trail worth following like honesty, integrity, values, and morals).
Demonstrate Confidence
Demonstrating confidence to the youth community is important by showing and telling them that they can do whatever they put their mind to, also to be proud of the person they are becoming. By doing this, children will start:
Believing in themselves.
Setting the bar high (the sky's the limit).
Overcoming fears (to succeed you need the confidence to face and overcome anything that scares you).
